Winter 2021 Issue

Volume 4.

Welcome to the fourth volume of Barry Bytes, our digital e-magazine packed with insights from our team, interviews, new exhibitions, collection highlights, and more. As the first publication of 2021, it feels like a page has turned. As a society, the vaccine is out and we are hopeful for what this will bring- can we be together once again? To mark one year of quarantine, we are opening Pandemic, an intimate exhibition that recontextualizes artworks from our own collection and features new pieces that reflect the effects covid-19 has had on the human condition.

Fall 2020 Issue

Volume 3.

It is an honor to write to you as the new Interim Director here at the Barry Art Museum on our second anniversary of being open to the public. As a traditionally trained glassblower and conceptual artist, I find our collection to be particularly enthralling for the diverse materiality- history and narratives. American Modernist Paintings are paired with contemporary glass sculptures and works on paper are exhibited alongside historic fashion dolls- creating dynamic conversations transcending time and medium. There are many stories to be discovered within these walls. Our remarkable building was designed by local architect Burrell Saunders and is undulating, expansive and serene. It allows visitors to relax and truly commune with the works of art.

Summer 2020 Issue

Volume 2.

We welcome you and your family into the Barry Art Museum for a quiet and meditative experience in the presence of art. There are many new works on view as our collection continues to grow to reflect our diverse local and global community.

Spring 2020 issue

Volume 1.

Welcome to the first edition of Barry Bytes, our museum’s new online eMagazine! Published quarterly, all future editions will be archived and made available on the museum’s website. The concept and content of his Spring’s edition was developed with input and contributions by our ODU student gallery hosts. When the Museum closed on March 14th due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they enthusiastically transitioned to become our teleworking editors and designers. We hope you enjoy the content of this first mailer and we would welcome your comments and suggestions.
