U-Nite: THEATER & FILM

December 10, 2021 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

FREE

Join us for an elegant send off to Karen Lamonte’s exhilarating Théâtre de la Mode exhibit on Friday, December 10th from 5:00pm – 8:00pm.

At 5:30, we will begin with a screening of French film director René Clair’s delightful comedy, I Married a Witch (1942) for which the celebrated artist and writer Jean Cocteau designed a special Théâtre de la Mode set “Tribute to René Clair: Ma femme est une sorcière” in 1945. The film stars film legend Veronica Lake and Frederic March.

At 6:30, ODU Dance will perform Ophelia Ascends. Inspired by the character from Hamlet, the work begins with a stunning tableau of a reclining Ophelia drenched in projected text that foreshadows her death. But in this work, Ophelia’s death is not the end. She is transformed. She is resurrected. She develops wings.

Finally at 7:00 and 7:15, Pop Up Players Artistic Director Ruzzie Degirmenci will enact two Tableaux Vivants (“living pictures”) performance art pieces based on sculptures in the exhibit.

There will be free popcorn and a cash bar to toast this effervescent show and start the weekend in style.

The events are free and open to the public
